The term '18xx' covers a range of games concerned with the management of railway companies. Players buy company shares in Stock Rounds and the players who control the companies through share ownership operate the companies during Operating Rounds. The aim of the game is to have the greatest value is cash and share values when the game ends.
18xx game references are assigned from a central register maintained by Rob Thomasson. The very first postal game started in 1977 and was given the reference 1829-A. When 'Z' was reached the next game was called 1829-A1, and so it has continued.
You can download the maps and tile sheets I use for my games from the general 18xx section of the site, which also contains the 18xx Rules Difference List.
