Sopwith is a game of World War I aerial combat. Six pilots engage each other in combat and try to out-think each other. When a plane's damage reaches a critical level it is shot down. Planes can also leave the game by flying off the board. The winner is the player who has the skies to themselves.

You will need to know the rules of the game in order to play.  The rules are the same as those for the postal game.

Playing via the Web

As with all games, rules are required. Please read the rules of engagement that cover For Whom The Web Rocks games. The following additional rules apply to these Sopwith games.

• Sopwith games require six players.
   
• Please use a subject of Sopwith exxx when sending orders (replace the 'xxx' with the game number, e.g. Sopwith e999).
   
• Players will be contacted via a group e-mail. This e-mail group will only be used for messages about the game.
   
• The referee may adjudicate as soon as a complete set of orders has been received, whether or not the due date for the turn has arrived.
   
• Moves made for players by the referee will involve flying straight ahead without firing.  If this causes their plane to leave the playing area, they will have crashed off-board and will be out of the game.  If their plane is on the ground, it will stay there if repairs can be made, otherwise it will take off using the central runway.
