The southern French city of Carcassonne is famous for its unique Roman and Medieval fortifications. The players develop the area around Carcassonne and deploy their followers on the roads, in the cities, in the cloisters, and in the fields. The skills of the players to develop the area and use their thieves, knights, monks and farmers will determine who is victorious.

Carcassonne was designed by Klaus-Jürgen Wrede and is published by Hans im Glück (German edition) and Z-Man Games (English edition).

Playing via the Web

As with all games, rules are required. Please read the rules of engagement that cover For Whom The Web Rocks games. The following additional rules apply to these Carcassonne games.

Carcassonne games require four to five players.
Please use a subject of Carcassonne exxx when sending orders (replace the 'xxx' with the game number, e.g. Carcassonne e999).
Games may be played to the basic rules, or may include The River and/or the Inns & Cathedrals expansion. When you join a game you can choose which type of game to play.
If a tile needs to be discarded because it cannot be played, this will be done automatically, and will be shown on the game page.
The game page will show the possible positions for the next tile to be played, and also show the possible tile facings for each position. Players should submit orders using the position number and facing letter given on the game page.
Players should be as clear as possible when ordering follower placement. For example, if a road tile has three or four separate roads on it, simply ordering the placement of a thief may not be enough, unless only one of the roads is free of other thieves.
If the situation arises where a tile has only one possible placement, and there is no possibility of placing a follower, the tile will be placed automatically.
Moves made for players by the referee will normally involve actions to improve the player's potential score. Priority will be given to placing tiles and followers for an immediate score.
